Qualifying for ITU Triathlon & Multisport Worlds /
Racing as a member of Team Canada

In order to qualify for ITU Triathlon Worlds or ITU Multisport Worlds, athletes need to:
  • be members of Triathlon Ontario,
  • complete an EOI (Expression of Interest) ahead of the event at which they will attempt to qualify for Team Canada,
  • race and complete the event, and then
  • await confirmation from Triathlon Canada as to whether or not they did indeed make the Team.

For Triathlon Ontario sanctioned events, Triathlon Ontario sends out an email to its members ahead of all qualifying events with an invitation to submit an EOI.

Qualification for ITU Triathlon Worlds is for either the sprint distance or standard (Olympic) distance triathlon.

Qualification for ITU Multisport Worlds is for: aquathlon, duathlon, cross triathlon, aquabike and long course triathlon events.

Athletes can qualify and race at multiple events.

The title of Multisport Legend is awarded to athletes who compete in four (4) events at Multisport Worlds.

In addition to qualifying at events in Ontario, Triathlon Ontario members also have the option of racing out of province and qualifying at out of province events. To do so athletes need to: go to triathloncanada.com, and under the menu item “Athletes/Teams” click on “Age Group”. Scroll down to find “How to Qualify”, expand the option and find “click here to submit an EOI for a 20XX qualification event”.  Find the sport (i.e. aquathlon, sprint triathlon, etc…), find the specific event at which you will be trying to qualify, click on it, register and pay. After paying you are done (with respect to being eligible for Team Canada). Race the event and await confirmation from Triathlon Canada to see if you did indeed qualify. If not, then athletes can retry qualifying by following the same process again ahead of the next qualifying race.

Triathlon Canada publishes at the start of the race season the list of all qualifying events and the # of spots available at each event.
